Adult day services, in Rhode Island, are defined as a community-based group program designed to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of adults who have impairments. Adult day services enable participants to live in the community by supporting families and other caregivers.

Rhode Island requires that adult day care centers be licensed and abide by the rules, regulations, and standards which have been developed by the Department of Elderly Affairs. Those rules apply to all facilities and programs which provide adult day services to those seniors who are in need of supportive care and supervision during the daytime. The same licensing standards apply to all providers, regardless of reimbursement source.
