Washington Adult Day Care Information

In Washington, adult day care is defined as a supervised daytime program that provides core services which are appropriate for adults with medical or disabling conditions. Those conditions must not require the intervention or services of a registered nurse or licensed rehabilitative therapist. Adult day health care has been defined as a supervised daytime program providing skilled nursing and rehabilitative therapy services in addition to core services provided in adult day care. The State of Washington does not require either licensure or certification of adult day care programs. Washington regulations limit who can be served to those whose needs exceed the scope of authorized services that the adult day care center provides and those who are not capable of participating safely in a group care setting.

Washington Adult Day Care Minimum Standards

In Washington, orientation is required of new employees, contractors, and volunteers. At minimum, all staff, contractors, and volunteers must receive in-service training and staff development quarterly that meets their individual training needs to support program services. All staff, contractors, and volunteers must receive training about documentation, reporting requirements, and universal precautions. The state requires a staff to participant ratio of 1:6.
