Texas Adult Day Care Information

In Texas, adult day care includes day activity and health services including skilled nursing and personal care services, health education and counseling, health monitoring and health-related services, medication administration, and physical rehabilitative services.

Texas Adult Day Care Minimum Standards

Texas requires individuals who self-administer their medications to be counseled at least once a month by licensed nursing staff to ascertain if they continue to be capable of self-administering their medications. The State of Texas requires a staff to participant ratio of 1:8. For its Medicaid waiver clients, Texas requires a minimum of one registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse on site 8 hours per day and states further that sufficient licensed nursing staff must be on site to meet the nursing needs of the clients. The facility must provide all staff with training in fire, disaster, and evacuation procedures within 3 work days of employment and provide direct care staff a minimum of 18 hours of training during the first 3 months of employment.
