Oklahoma Adult Day Care Information
An adult day care center, in Oklahoma, is defined as a facility which offers basic day caregiving services for more than 4 hours of a 24-hour period to unrelated impaired adults. Such a center must be a separate entity, as either freestanding or separate program of a larger organization. For example, such a center must have a separate verifiable staff, space, budget, and client documentation. Adult day care centers do not include retirement centers or senior citizen centers. An adult day care center provider must possess a current, valid license to operate an adult day care center in Oklahoma, as issued pursuant to the Adult Day Care Act.
Oklahoma Adult Day Care Minimum Standards
If able, participants attending the adult day care program should be encouraged to both keep and administer their own medications. Centers that do administer medication to clients must have an appropriately trained professional to do so. That professional may be either a registered nurse (RN), licensed practical nurse (LPN.), certified medication aide (CMA), or a medication administration technician (MAT). Oklahoma requires a staff to participant ratio of 1:8. Adult day care center licenses must be renewed every year, on July 31.
Every adult day care center must be inspected at least once a year to ensure compliance with the Adult Day Care Act and rules and regulations. If violations are cited following an inspection, a notice of violation is sent to the adult day care center, who shall have 10 days after receipt of the notice of violation in which to prepare and submit a plan of correction. The summary of adult day care requirements, in Oklahoma, can be found in the Adult Day Care Act, 63 O.S., Section 1-872 et seq., and the Adult Day Care Center Regulations, OAC 310:605, which establishes criteria for issuance or renewal of an adult day care center license.
Oklahoma Adult Day Care Medicaid Waiver
If an adult day center program wishes to participate in the Oklahoma Medicaid Aged & Disabled Waiver and State Plan, then providers must have applicable state licenses and a Medicaid contract with The Oklahoma Health Care Authority.
