Nevada Adult Day Care Information
Regulations in Nevada define facilities for the care of adults during the day as an establishment operated and maintained to provide care on a temporary or permanent basis for aged or infirm persons. Such facilities are not meant to include halfway houses for those recovering from substance abuse. Nevada requires all facilities offering adult day or adult day health care to be licensed (including Medicaid waiver and State Plan providers).
Nevada Adult Day Care Minimum Standards
Adult day care services, in Nevada, are designed to provide a continuing, organized program that consists of rehabilitative, therapeutic and supportive health and social services and activities for clients who are functionally impaired. Such services are provided away from the client’s home, either on a regular schedule or to provide intermittent respite for the client’s caregiver. Such services are usually for more than two hours per day, but less than 24 hours. Some adult day programs may specialize in working with those clients who have dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
In Nevada, participants of social adult day care programs must be able to administer their own medications, although it is expected that many participants will need assistance. However, if a facility accepts a client who is unable to administer his/her medication, then medication can be provided by a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse under the supervision of a registered nurse. The State of Nevada has no staff to client ratio, although during operational hours of the facility, all clients must be supervised by at least one employee at all times. In addition, that employee must be trained to administer first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). All employees and volunteers must undergo at least twelve hours of training per year and must participate in an orientation program to teach staff about the center’s programs, policies, and services.
