New Hampshire Adult Day Care Information

New Hampshire defines adult day care as a service that offers medical supervision, care or treatment, or provide assistance in daily living activities, to three or more individuals, regardless of whether the center is operated for profit or not.

New Hampshire Adult Day Care Minimum Standards

Adult day care providers, in New Hampshire, must develop and implement policies addressing medication handling, supervision, and administration. The state requires that one staff member shall be present at all times when one or two clients are present in the facility. When there are 3-8 participants, at least two staff members shall be present at all times, but one of the two may be a trained volunteer. When there are more than eight participants, the State of New Hampshire, requires that there must be a minimum of one staff member for every eight clients. In addition, the center must have a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse available at all times. Additional support members must be available at some times. New Hampshire requires the Department of Health and Human Services to make at least one annual unannounced inspection and to monitor the utilization of adult day program services.

New Hampshire Adult Day Care Medicaid Waiver

Adult medical day care services in New Hampshire are provided under the Medicaid State Plan and through the Home and Community-Based Care for the Elderly and Chronically Ill (HCBC-ECI) waiver program. Providers of adult medical day care must be licensed as adult day care providers and be enrolled as Medicaid providers in order to be reimbursed by Medicaid.
