Georgia Adult Day Services Information
Adult day services, in Georgia, are designed to offer a safe group environment with coordinated health and social services. The intention of such services is to stabilize or improve self-care. In addition, such programs will ideally help prevent, postpone, or reduce the need for institutional placement. Support is, therefore, provided for elderly individuals who do not need 24 hour nursing care, but who cannot fully function independently.
Georgia Adult Day Care Services Minimum Standards
Georgia Adult Day Care Services minimum standards include that certain programs and services be included in all adult day programs. Services such as skilled physical, occupational, and speech therapy, health monitoring, ADI assistance, health-related care, nursing services and skilled nursing services are required. Adult Day Care Service providers, in Georgia, are required to have a written policy regarding medication management and specific staff should be designated, authorized and trained to assist with the administration of medications. A staff to participant ratio of 1:4 or 1:8 is required depending on the type of adult day care service program being provided. All adult day care staff and volunteers who work with the clients in the program must complete an orientation within the first two weeks of employment. Training must include information on the rights of the participants, program guidelines and policies, how to handle medical and safety emergencies, universal precautions and the prevention and reporting of abuse. Georgia Adult Day Services Medicaid Waiver
The Community Care Services Program Waiver does assist in paying for adult day health services, in Georgia. The waiver is under the administration of the Division of Aging Services. In this program, services can be reimbursed by the Department of Community Health at two different levels. Level I is for participants who require minimal assistance with activities of daily living or self-care needs, as well as little medical monitoring, and oversight for safety. The Level II services are designed to be more intensive and may include specialized nursing services.
