Florida Adult Day Care Centers Information

Adult Day Care Centers are not defined by Florida’s Agency on Health Care Administration. However, the agency does set certain parameters for which services and programming will be offered for adults who need a safe and protective setting during the day. Such participants have the advantage of living in their own homes, whether a private residence, group home or assisted living facility, and then come to the adult day care center during specific hours of the day. Services can be offered through an existing facility, such as a hospital, nursing home or assisted living facility, or they can be freestanding agencies.

Florida Adult Day Care Centers Minimum Standards

Florida Adult Day Care Centers minimum standards include the following: centers must provide leisure and social activities, self-care training, nutritious meals and snacks, a place to rest and respite care for the client's primary caregiver. The state requires a staff to participant ratio of 1:6. Regulations, also, require center personnel, who have direct contact with participants with Alzheimer's disease or dementia related disorders, to receive training that covers an overview of dementia and basic communication skills with persons who have it. Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration conducts an abbreviated inspection of key quality of care standards every two years for centers who have a record of good performance.
