Connecticut Adult Day Care

Connecticut Adult Day Care Information

Adult Day Centers are defined, by the state of Connecticut, as an agency that provide a variety of services during the day to elderly persons who may be socially isolated, in need of some support, care, or may have functional and/or cognitive impairments. Postponing or preventing institutional care is a key goal in these programs and allow residents to function in the least restrictive environment and to stay within their own communities. There are a number of centers who specialize in providing care and programming for those seniors with forms of dementia such as Alzheimer's Disease.

Connecticut Adult Day Care Certification

In order to receive funding from the Connecticut Department of Social Services, adult day care programs must be certified. The centers are not certified by the state, however. Instead, they are certified through a peer review process with the Connecticut Association of Adult Day Centers, which has established a set of standards statewide for adult day care center operation.

Connecticut Association of Adult Day Centers Certification Standards

The Certification Standards include requirements such as: a staff to participant ratio of 1:7, they must provide services that include family support, personal care, supervision, socialization, health monitoring, lunch and snacks, medication administration and recreation. The standards, also, require centers to either offer transportation or arrange for transportation needs.
