Alabama Adult Day Care Information
Adult day care services, in Alabama, are provided to adults who are at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation or institutionalization. Adult Day Care offers supervised care in a protective setting for adults who are in need of supervision and/or care outside of the home for a portion of a 24-hour day. In Alabama, adult day care services may be provided by companies that are approved facilities that meet the Adult Day Care Minimum Standards specified requirements by the state of Alabama Department of Human Resources. This state does not require either licensure or certification of adult day care programs. Adult Day Care service providers must also identify those counties that will be served by their services.
Alabama Adult Day Care Minimum Standards
Alabama Adult Day Care minimum standards include the proper documentation of attendance and assessments and other items, an operating schedule that requires the facility to be open a minimum of seven hours per day, a proper emergency and disaster plan, and requirements for program content for the adult day service participants. The minimum standards also include requirements for proper nutrition for meals, snacks and beverages, identification of the health needs of the clients, proper social services attention, specific staffing requirements. Finally, the minimum standards require that adult day services must provide an acceptable means of transportation and the ability to provide a service plan for client referrals. Specific Dementia Care Regulations
Alabama requires that providers discharge participants when the program of care can no longer meet their needs or when their condition presents an immediate and serious risk to the health, safety, or welfare of the participants or others.
Monitoring Requirements/Complaint Processes
An annual monitoring is conducted to ensure that providers are in compliance.
Medicaid Waiver
Alabama has one 1915(c) Medicaid waiver, the Elderly and Disabled Waiver, which provides adult day health care.
